Alex Jones’ Business Entities Agree to Drop Bankruptcy Filing Following Sandy Hook Verdict

After learning of the unfavorable verdict that was reached in the Sandy Hook defamation lawsuits, Infowars founder Alex Jones responded by filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Before the judge presiding over the case had the opportunity to list the damages Jones would be responsible for paying the Sandy Hook shooting victims, it appears he attempted to “shield his assets from liability,” reports Reuters (1), by seeking bankruptcy protection.

Jones filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy back in April 2022 and it has recently come to light that his companies agreed to dismiss the bankruptcy case at the beginning of June 2022.

Why are Alex Jones’ companies dismissing the Chapter 11 bankruptcy case?

After the families involved in the Sandy Hook defamation case caught word that Jones had filed for bankruptcy following the court’s ruling that he would be required to pay damages, they were outraged. In fact, the U.S. Trustee accused Jones of using the Chapter 11 bankruptcy as a way “to protect [his] personal wealth ahead of trials to determine how much he owes in damages for the defamation judgments,” shared Reuters.

Although Jones’ lawyers have denied the allegations, his companies have agreed to not proceed with bankruptcy. Prior to the decision being made, the families involved in the defamation lawsuits reportedly decided to drop Jones’ companies as defendants, which means the Jones would solely be liable for compensating the victims.
